The sports ground in Crumlin was established by the Iveagh Trust, including the garden estate that surrounded it. Here is video of the annual sports meeting of the Guinness Athletic Union, and was held just a week before the national championships in July, 1938. A lot of the top athletes attended, with the highlight being the road race from Bray to the grounds. Numerous disciplines on track and field were part of it and the Irish Army performed a drill of Sokol gymnastics and their band played music also. The Iveagh Grounds have long been established as a home to several sports and clubs, including St. James’ Gate football club, hockey teams, lacrosse, rugby and bowling to name just a few.
