The first part of this video is remarkable footage of the Fenian Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa lying in state in the City Hall Dublin. James Clarke can be clearly seen, after immediately starting a campaign for his body to be returned to Ireland after his death. O’Donovan Rossa passed away in Staten Ireland on June 29th 1915, and the funeral was at Glasnevin on 1 August. The public paid their respects over three days as his body lay in state to view behind a glass cover on the coffin, as can be seen in the video. The day of the funeral is famous for the oration by Padraig Pearse at the graveside and was delayed considerably as people from all areas of the country came to attend. The procession was marshalled by the Irish Volunteers. Born at Rosscarbery, Cork, O’Donovan Rossa was a pivotal figure in Irish history, founding the Phoenix society which merged into the Irish Republican Brotherhood(IRB), wrote for the Irish People(whose offices were famously raided) and became a prominent member in the Fenian Brotherhood, On another note you can see how the buildings formerly were beside City Hall on Dame Street and Cork Hill. Footage digresses to something unrelated at 1;12.
